• Most common producer of ESBL (extended spectrum beta lactamase, which confers resistance to ALL beta lactams except carbapenems)

TREATMENT OPTIONS

• Follow sensitivities on cultures, several agents may be appropriate across a number of classes and therapy should be deescalated to an effective antibiotic with narrowest spectrum
• If ESBL + on culture, must use a carbapenem (ID consult necessary)
