- Gram +, gamma-hemolytic (no hemolysis)

- Penicillin drug of choice
- Combination with aminoglycoside is synergistic
- Other good options
- Ampicillin or amoxicillin
- Note: Our institution has observed a case of penicillin-sensitive, ampicillin-resistant S. gallolyticus
- Piperacillin
- If penicillin allergy
- Erythromycin
- Clindamycin
- Vancomycin
- Ampicillin or amoxicillin
- Most common infections: bacteremia, infective endocarditis (25-50% of the bacteremias are associated with endocarditis, most cases being subacute)
- Strong association between Strep bovis/gallolyticus, IE, and colon cancer
- Colon cancer workup has to be performed on any patient with S. bovis/gallolyticus bacteremia and/or endocarditis
